White Collar Boxing, Friday August 1st 2008, London

The Ellie May White Collar Boxing Challenge

NORWICH V’s LONDON

On Friday August 1st 2008, Professional Boxing trainer, Reg Davies put together a boxing event to raise money for the Ellie May Trust. Reg is worked closely with "J" and Andy from the Bolddog White Collar Boxing Club to put on the event.

Jay and Andy put a team together to form the “Norwich Select” to fight the “London Select” team on Aug 1st 2008 in aid of the Ellie May Trust.
Ellie-May Challis is a two-year-old girl from Romford who tragically lost her arms and legs as a result of meningitis last year. Although she won the battle to survive, both arms and legs were amputated from below the elbow and above the knee.

Her prosthetic limbs will need to be replaced every four years to keep pace with her growth at a cost of £30,000 each time as cheaper options available on the NHS are heavy and have no moveable joints.

STILL SMILING: Ellie-May Challis, two, who lost both arms and legs to meningitis (c)

To enable Ellie to have as normal a life as possible, the Ellie May Trust has been set up.
There are no administration costs; every penny goes to Ellie’s trust.

Boxers that competed on the event were as follows:

Jay

Chris Duncombe

Gareth Edwards

Andy Godbold

Mark Gooch

Mike Saliu

Dan Goodwin

The busiest to date! Part 1

Well..........What a year it’s been, 54 days and 30 shows later we are now drawing to the end of the fan nominal 2008 season. The team have, flipped, twisted, grabbed and whipped their way across the country from extreme sports events to some of the biggest country and agricultural shows Europe has to offer.

The Bolddog Lings Team started their campaign at one of the UK’s top theme parks, no less than Thorpe Park. Bolddog Lings regulars Dan Whitby and Samson Eaton were joined by fellow Englishman and one of the UK’s best Jamie Squibb for a UK vs USA face off against America’s  Jack Rowe and Thomas Alves who made the journey across the pond for this epic battle.

It was to be the UK team that prevailed as UK weather set upon Thorpe Park preventing the American riders from possibly reaching their top game.

The team then saddled up for the main season of shows Kicking things off at the legendary British race circuit that is Donnington Park. The British Touring Car Championship being the event and the team were scripted in to perform for the race fans in the intervals. After back flipping like a gymnast all week earlier in the year at Thorpe Park, Bolddog’s team Manager Dan Whitby was also booked to get upside down and in funny shapes at the Touring Cars. Not to be over shadowed by Dan, his witty riding partner in crime, Samson Eaton took it upon himself to display a truly breathtaking example of upright trickery on his Lings Honda.

British Touring Cars a huge success the team head back home to Norfolk to only be back on the road the following weekend. Not too far to travel for the next venue, the team headed over the river for the South Suffolk show. With no pressure of Backflips and roaring sunshine, Dan and Samson rode in front of the thousands in attendance in fine style.

The next 2 months saw the team cover the width and depth of the UK. The Chassis-Cab DAF lorry covered countless miles  from Devon to Newcastle, quick stop in Northumberland, Ferry crossing over to Ireland,  sunny visit to the Royal Cornwall, flying visit to Stevanage finally closing the adventure with a long haul up to Scotland for the Burgie International Horse Trials. The Scottish weather not favouring the team, but never the less Bolddog Lings riders Dan Whitby, Samson Eaton and Arran Powley rode for the crowds putting on yet another display of freestyle riding at its best in the not so perfect conditions.

After returning home the team prepared for the ever popular Royal Norfolk Show. A local show for the boys both Samson and Dan wanted to repeat their quality performance at last year’s show. This for Dan meant more and more backflips and Samson showing off his ever growing repertoire of tricks. Young and up and coming Bolddog Lings star Arran Powley also making an appearance wowing the home crowd in front of the record breaking 100,000 strong crowds over the two day period.

With the season almost half way through the Bolddog Lings steam train was already travelling at speed and showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. The next stop on the calendar was the Royal Show at Stoneleigh Park in the Midlands followed by Wirral show the following weekend. Then the team prepared for a weeklong trip that had been looked forward to all year. Kicking off in Yorkshire at The Malton show for the second year running then soon packing up ready to hit Wales. The venue was the Royal Welsh Show which is the biggest and best show of its kind in Europe.

With the disappointment of last year’s show team really had a point to prove at the four day event. The team attended the show last year only being able to perform twice out of 8 shows due to bad weather so this year the team really were hoping for good weather and thankfully they got it.

Blistering sunshine for all four days really allowed the Bolddog team to show the Royal Welsh crowds why they are the UK’s number one freestyle team.

Dan wowed the crowds with his upside down antics and being half way through the season Samson was really riding on his A game once again showing the 60,000 each day strong crowd why he is one of the UK’s best. So with the minor setback of Dan being very ill for one of the four days the Royal Welsh had officially been conquered by the Bolddog Lings Team with the show being a massive success and easily being the best show of the year.

Part 2 to follow shortly

We would like to say a big thank you to all our sponsors to which without your support such a successful year would not be possible.

The Busiest to date! Part 2

With the success of the Royal Welsh show under their belts the Team headed up to Scotland once again to finish their week long adventure in Glasgow for the annual Glasgow Show. Home once again for the Team only for them to suit back up and head back up to Scotland for the Perthshire Show which required a quick turnaround as the Team had to be in Cranley, Surrey the very next day. Nothing like travelling nearly the length of the country in a day!

After being extremely busy covering many miles in the Chassis-Cabs DAF lorry with the Bolddog landing system in tow the Team found themselves with an unfamiliar weekend off. But not completely stopping, Bolddog’s team rider’s Samson Eaton and Arran Powley were scripted in by Jamie Squibb to ride at the British round of the World Speedway GP in Cardiff. The Millennium Stadium being the venue and with 43,000 tickets sold both Samson and Arran represented Bolddog and all their sponsors in very fine style alongside Jamie Squibb.

Back to it then after the weekend off the massive mobile landing system with team in tow headed to Shrewsbury for the prestigious Shrewsbury flower show. Dan and Samson both being very unsure on what to think of riding at a flower show, They were both very shocked as they arrived to find out that they would be riding at night under flood lights closing the show with £25000 firework display. Turned out to be a pretty amazing show. Also performing at the Show with the team was Hayley Westenra the young and famous opera singer from New Zealand just showing the stature of this event.

With simply too many dates to list, the Team enjoyed the next two months of shows drawing to a close at the British Superbike round at Silverstone, with the honour of performing on the start finish straight at this legendary race circuit.

The Team played a non performing role at this year’s Dirt Bike show proudly being a part of both the Fuchs Silkolene stand and the two Osiris Shoes stands at the show. The Guys at Silkolene doing a fine job or recreating what Dan had been doing on his bike all year, getting it upside down. We were delighted to hear that Silkolene took home a deserved stand of the show award.

The Team now look forward to once again performing at the NEC Internation Motorcycle and Scooter show which will conclude the 2008 season.

Dan Whitby's Trip to Oman with M.S.I.

In a show of how the Bolddog Lings name is truly an internationally recognised institute and more so how Dan Whitby (24) is a star in his own right, the Freestyle Motorcross rider from Harleston will soon be travelling over to Oman to join the World Famous Muscat Festival 2008 and perform in the fmx section for Moto Stunts International.

Moto Stunts International have organised the extreme action arena for the Festival, and have also invited alongside Dan, fellow Bolddog rider Jamie Squibb (25), as the UK’s top Freestyle riders, they travelled out to Oman at the end of January to be part of the 3 week festival, the exceptionally talented Bolddog Lings Freestyle riders will be wowing the crowds with a phenomenal display which will be repeated three times a night.

As the newest edition of ‘Oman's biggest annual cultural, tourist and entertainment extravaganza’, running until February 15, Whitby and Squibb will be part of this unique show which has been specifically designed to cater for the differing tastes of local citizens, expatriates and visiting tourists.

In preparation for this globally renowned show, Whitby’s Lings supplied Honda CRF250 started its mammoth journey over 6 weeks ago when it was sent by container to Oman. Riding and displaying on the 4-stroke engine bike will be one of the highlights of the show with very few being available within the state, with it being an incredibly traditional country, yet rich in historical and cultural interest.

Performing in front of not only members of the royal family, but also ministers, under-secretaries, ambassadors of brotherly and friendly countries, private sector executives and Abdullah bin Abbas bin Ahmed, chairman of Muscat Municipality and head of the organising committee, it will certainly be one of Whitby’s most prestigious displays to date.

"It will be an unforgettable occasion for every visitor," Abdullah bin Abbas bin Ahmed, Chairman of organisers Muscat Municipality, said. "Special care has been taken to suit different tastes of local people, expatriates and foreign tourists," he stressed, adding that a host of activities planned this year with extensive international participation would "showcase the cultural, tourism, socio-economic and recreational aspects of the Sultanate."

With a ramp being built to UK specifications for Moto Stunts International, the Bolddog Lings Riders will certainly be displaying in style - as ever! With a big thanks to the teams’ sponsors – Lings Honda, the team looks to moving from strength to strength over the next year. Catch up with pictures and footage from the teams’ trip to the Muscat Festival on ‘lings.com’.

Big thanks to Tony from Moto Stunts International for inviting Dan along to the Muscat Festival.
